There has been confusion as to how Senator Bukola Saraki emerged senate president unopposed..This confusion stems from the fact that,Senator Ahmed Lawan was chosen by the APC as it's sole candidate .This split the National House of Assembly in to two fractions..Those supporting Saraki and those behind Lawan who were the majority ..

According to Channels Tv,51 APC senators who were behind Lawan were absent .In essence, the PDP senators and the remaining APC senators on Saraki's side voted unopposed..

It is not clear if the boycott was intentional.The APC legislators were said to have met with president Buhari this morning.It is also not known if Bukola Saraki and his loyalists attended the meeting..

On the other hand,some political observers argue President Buhari may have intervened and cajoled Lawan to step down..
