Mackeon Schulte of Montana, was shot after he and another boy threw pebbles at the bedroom window of a sleeping friend.
Billings police said that the shooter was startled when he saw 2 people at his window around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Schulte and another boy were spending the night together when they decided to surprise their friend in the early morning hours of Sunday, according to a statement by police chief Rich St. John.
The teenager grabbed a gun and fire a shot out the window at what he thought were burglars. Sadly, the bullet hit Schulte in the head and he died.
The second boy who was outside the window, was not hurt.
Police are still investigating the incident, but so far, no charges have been filed in the case.
