Nurse dies after falling from medical helicopter hoist while rescuing woman

A nurse tragically died while she was trying to save the life of another woman, police in Texas said.

Now, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident in which the nurse died after falling from a hoist of a medical helicopter.

She was trying to rescue a woman who suffered a cardiac arrest, from a hiking trail in Austin.

STAR Flight, the company that was attempting the rescue, said that 46-year-old Kristin McLain fell off the hoist on Monday night, while trying to retrieve a woman who had fallen into the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

McLain died at the scene. The rescued woman was taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with non life threatening injuries.

The STAR Flight program director said that McLain has been with the company for seven years. STAR Flight provides air emergency medical services.
