A man was arrested on charges of assault after stabbing a bus passenger because he refused to give him a cigarette, police in Kentucky said.
Louisville Metro Police said that they have arrested 31-year-old Skyler W. Wheeler, after being accused of stabbing the unidentified man several times in the back.
According to the arrest report, the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the police investigation, Wheeler was at a bus stop when he asked the victim for a cigarette.
When that person did not give him one, Wheeler began beating him. Wheeler threw the victim to the ground and began kicking him.
Wheeler then pulled a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the back. The victim was taken to University Hospital. A witness identified the suspect as Wheeler, police said.
As Wheeler was arrested, an officer checked his jacket pocket, where he found a pill bottle containing nine unmarked prescription pills.
Wheeler was arrested and charged with assault and having a prescription controlled substance that was not in its proper container.
His bail was set at $100,000.
