Man 25, Dies After Engaging In Alcohol Drinking Competition In Benin

A 25-year old man died in his prime after engaging in an  alcohol-drinking competition in  Benin, Edo state.

According to reports by the Nation, the deceased, Famous Ogbeide, 25, and three others were drinking different brands of hot drinks at the funeral of their friend’s father.

Ogbeide was said to have emerged winner in the first and second rounds of the contest, but failed to collect his prize of N4,000 as he died in the hospital. Ogbeide's two other friends have since been hospitalized.

The contest which was initiated by one of the youths at the event was so much fun until things turned around. It was also reported that one of the victims pulled out of the contest when he began to cough and vomit.

The police have since arrested the organizers of the funeral party who was said to have arrived Nigeria from Malaysia the day before.

According to the police spokesperson DSP Joseph Edoigiawerie the homicide department of the  Edo state police command is handling the case.
