As the country prepares for Presidential election on
Saturday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti and
the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Akin Orebiyi, on
Thursday addressed the media on the preparations of securty agencies and
the electoral body for the election.
Aderanti, who
spoke during the media briefing, said that 36,204 security personnel
would be deployed across the state for election duties, adding that they
will man land, sea and the air with motorcycles, trucks, armoured personnel carrier, gunboats and helicopters.
He assured that the force had put in place a comprehensive
security arrangement for voters to perform their civic responsibilities
during the elections, warning that the state police command was ready
to put troubles makers where they belong.
“There will be no violence of any sort on that day,” the police boss said, warning that anybody who violates the Electoral Act will be dealt with.
“Nobody
should stand close to the election centre after casting his or her
vote. It is expected for all voters to move 300 meters away. Our men are
ready to deal with any would-be-trouble maker and anybody caught will
be prosecuted and jailed.
Aderanti said media
practitioners, oil workers, and others on essential services will be
allowed to move around during the curfew period after proper
accreditation. Movement is restricted between 6am and 6pm on Saturday.
Helplines to call during the period are: 08079279349, 08227155071 and 08063299264.
