Some Ethiopian Christians have been murdered by militants loyal to the
Islamic State group, also known as ISIS and ISIL in Libya.
The footage which was released on Sunday, April 19, 2015 showed some
ISIS militants in black held two groups of captives, one by an affiliate
in eastern Libya known as Barka Province and the other by the Fazzan
Province, an affiliate in the south.
The Ethiopian government confirmed Monday, April 20, 2015 that 30 of its citizens were among the two groups,according to Ethiopian News Agency.
Meanwhile, the government of Ethiopia has declared a three-day national mourning period for their deceased nationals.
While brandishing a pistol, a masked militant threatened Christians to
convert to Islam or face the penalty of having to pay a special tax
prescribed by the Quran.
The video further showed the captives in the South being shot dead
whereas their fellows at the Eastern part were decapitated on a beach.
The militants commenced their operations in the country since the overthrow of dictator Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.
They have carried out their numerous attacks majorly on Christian
hostages who are either beheaded or murdered in other gruesome manners.
